Course Outline

This nationally recognised training course gives participants the necessary skills and knowledge to safely and efficiently load and unload plant items in a range of different working environments including earthmoving, civil construction industries.

  • Obtain and display signage, and erect barriers to isolate the loading and unloading site from general traffic flow in line with safe work practices
  • Prepare to load and unload plant
  • Load the plant in line with established requirements
  • Secure plant to trailer or float
  • Unload the plant in line with established requirements
  • Identify faults and rectify or report within scope of responsibility
  • Protecting plant from weather
  • Completing all required documentation

Requirements & Details

  • Participants must be a minimum of 17 years of age to sit the assessment, and be proficient in English
  • Photo ID, and wear appropriate PPE (Hi-viz clothing, ankle height steel toe boots, hard hat, safety glasses)
  • A short literacy and numeracy test will be required
  • Assessment type: Theory and Practical

Duration

  • 1/2 day course depending on competency

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be issued with;

  • Statement of attainment (SOA) for the unit RIIHAN308F – Load and unload plant
  • A wallet sized photo identification card reflecting the achievement.

1.Prepare to load and unload plant

1.1 Access, interpret and apply load handling documentation to ensure work activity is compliant

1.2 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements

1.3 Identify hazards and environmental issues, assess the risks and implement control measures in line with workplace policies

1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment required for work activities

1.5 Obtain and display signage, and erect barriers to isolate the loading and unloading site from general traffic flow in line with safe work practices

  1. Load the plant in line with established requirements

2.1 Confirm the dimensions and capacity of the float or trailer to safely carry the plant

2.2 Select tools and loading equipment in line with work requirements

2.3 Identify faults, and rectify or report prior to commencement of work, within scope of own responsibility and according to workplace procedures

2.4 Confirm preparation procedures of the plant for transportation has been completed

2.5 Place and secure loading aids in line with workplace procedures

2.6 Confirm the loading procedure with operator and/or guide before loading commences

2.7 Move the plant item onto the trailer or float and halt at the designated position as per workplace procedures

2.8 Secure plant to trailer or float in line with workplace procedures

  1. Unload the plant in line with established requirements

3.1 Confirm the unloading procedure with operator and guide before unloading commences

3.2 Place and secure unloading aids, including ramps, in accordance with the trailer or float specifications

3.3 Slacken securing devices and remove according to workplace procedures

3.4 Move the plant item off the trailer or float and halt at the designated position

3.5 Stow loading aids including ramps, bridging materials and securing devices as per workplace procedures
