Course Outline

This nationally recognised training course gives participants the necessary skills and knowledge to safely and efficiently operate a grader and work in a range of different working environments from Mining, Earth Moving & Civil construction

  • Plan and prepare for grader operations
  • Operate grader in line with established requirements to complete work activity
  • Select, remove, fit and use attachments for grader
  • Prepare to relocate the grader

Requirements & Details

  • Participants must be a minimum of 18 years of age to sit the assessment, and be proficient in English
  • Photo ID, and wear appropriate PPE (Hi-viz clothing, ankle height steel toe boots, hard hat, safety glasses)
  • A short literacy and numeracy test will be required
  • Assessment type: Theory and Practical –

Duration

  • Beginner – 1-2 days depending on competency
  • Experienced – RPL, 4 hours – 1 day Course is available for all students who have evidence of previous experience operating a grader. Must supply either OHS/RII ticket OR VOC (minimum 12 months experience)

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be issued with;
  • Statement of attainment (SOA) for the unit RIIMPO324E – Conduct Civil Construction Grader Operations
  • A wallet sized photo identification card reflecting the achievement.

2.1 Carry out pre-start, start-up, park, shutdown and secure equipment procedures

2.2 Coordinate activities with others at the site prior to commencement of, and during, the work activity

2.3 Continually monitor hazards and risks, and ensure safety of self, other personnel, plant and equipment

2.4 Identify and apply operating techniques for grader to achieve optimum output within specified tolerances

2.5 Drive and operate grader, and modify the operating technique to meet changing work conditions

2.6 Complete work plan within the operating capacity of the equipment

2.7 Act on or report monitoring systems and alarms

3.3 Test attachment and ensure correct fitting and operation

3.4 Use attachment in accordance with recommendations and design limits

3.5 Clean and store removed attachments in designated location

4.1 Prepare grader for relocation

4.2 Move grader safely within and between worksiteswork areas, observing relevant codes and traffic management requirements

4.3 Load and unload machine from float/trailer

  1. Carry out machine operator maintenance

5.1 Prepare machine for maintenance

5.2 Conduct inspection and fault finding

5.3 Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks

5.4 Process written maintenance records

  1. Conduct housekeeping activities

6.1 Clear work area and dispose of or recycle materials in accordance with project environmental management plan
