HLTAID012

The course provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants and children in line with the first aid guidelines of the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies. Students will enjoy a fun and informative scenario-based training with access to the very latest first aid equipment.

About the Course

For educators and support staff within an education and care setting. providing first aid to children, who are looking to stay current with their previously acquired first aid and lifesaving skills.
Participants include: Those who have previous training in providing first Aid in education & care setting. A copy of the expired / expiring statement of attainment will be required prior to registering.

Pre-requisites
There are no formal prerequisite units required for entry into this course. Learners will require English language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills.

  • Combines HLTAID009 CPR, HLTAID010 Basic life support, HLTAID11 Provide First Aid
  • Online training – 6 hours, self-paced.
  • In class – 2 hours
  • Theory based training – in a relaxed and fun environment
  • Written assessment – Multiple-choice quiz
  • Practical assessment – Apply CPR & First aid skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply DRSABCD
  • Respond to an unconscious casualty
  • Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult and infant manikin
  • Effectively work in a two-person operated CPR
  • Recognise and assess an emergency situation
  • Communicate in an emergency situation
  • Anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction) response using an adrenaline auto-injector
  • Administering asthma medication
  • Treating shock, seizure and other debilitating ailments
  • Immobilisation techniques for addressing head and spinal injuries
  • Treatment of sprains, strains, fractures and dislocations
  • Management of bleeding along with appropriate bandaging
  • Contribute to a review of the first aid response as required
  • General signs and symptoms of acute illness in children and infants
  • Referral and advice services, including recognition of signs or symptoms requiring immediate ambulance response
  • Emergency action plans for known medical conditions, including Asthma and Anaphylaxis
  • Age-appropriate communication and distraction techniques
  • First aider response to basic physiological differences in children

Standard is for anyone who hasn’t previously done a course Express courses are for individuals who have completed the course previously and are looking to refresh their skills
– ARC (Australian resuscitation council) recommends that CPR should be renewed every 12 months
– LVR has a 12-month validity and must be completed every 12 months by anyone working LIVE
– HLTAID010, 011, 012 & 014 are valid for 3 years
Yes they are, all first aid course are nationally recognised under ABC First Aid RTO 3399
